The Ford Explorer – America’s all-time SUV sales leader – isn’t going to sit around and wait for the competition to come for its title.

Rather than rest on its considerable laurels (to the tune of eight-million total units sold), the Explorer is set to receive an epic refresh this summer. With a huge tech upgrade, revamped interior, and more, the 2025 Explorer aims to redefine the modern SUV yet again.

Connection is Key

Ford considers the new Explorer one of your future connected devices – not dissimilar to your phone or tablet. Engineered with millennial drivers in mind, it offers multiple connectivity options and features for a tech-savvy generation that now has its own, familial responsibilities to tend to.

The Explorer’s versatility enables it to seamlessly integrate whatever types of connections you prefer. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, and Apple Maps and Google Maps can be displayed on either the 13.2-inch infotainment screen or the 12.3-inch digital cluster screen. Bluetooth gaming controllers pair with the Explorer as well, allowing drivers to sample games from the Google Play store (when the Explorer is parked, of course).

In all, the onboard system computing power has quintupled, while graphics processing power has received an enormous boost. 5G connectivity enables approximately a dozen devices to pair with the Explorer and its high-res screens, making the SUV feel like an extension of your home.

New to the 2025 Explorer is BlueCruise 1.2 semi-autonomous hands-free driving. Turn long distance trips into pleasant voyages with BlueCruise’s lane changing assist features. A 90-day free trial of BlueCruise 1.2 is available with ST-Line, ST, and Platinum models.

An Interior to Impress

Changes to the 2025 Explorer’s exterior are subtle: a new grille for each variant, new all-LED lamps, and redesigned fascias. When it comes to your preferred engine, drivers now face a simple choice between the 300-hop 2.3-liter EcoBoost four and the more powerful 400-hp 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6. The 2025 Explorer is now capable of towing up to 5,000 lbs.

The interior is where things have gotten swanky. Updated seating surfaces and accents abound. There’s a new color palette, available multi-contour seats, and available multi-color ambient lighting. A new fabric-covered “sound bar” traverses the dash, and eight USB charging points are scattered throughout the cabin.

Available PowerFold Third Row seating folds down with the push of a button to create even more passenger or cargo space. Beneath the infotainment screen, you’ll find a tray to charge your phone. If there’s an amenity that feels the least bit crucial in 2024, chances are you can find it within this revamped Explorer.
