Although SUVs are highly versatile vehicles, you still usually have to choose one based on what your priorities are. For instance, small crossover SUVs are usually agile and comfortable, but many find them challenging when trying to tackle rough off-road trails. The 2024 Ford Bronco Sport is the exception to this rule, as it manages to be both compact enough for city traffic and rugged enough for off-road weekend adventures.
Great Features in Any Trim
There are five trim levels available for the 2024 Ford Bronco Sport: Big Bend, Heritage, Free Wheeling, Outer Banks, and Badlands. Here are some of their main features.
Big Bend
?Despite this being the base trim, it's packed with useful features that other vehicles only include in higher trims. Some of them are LED headlights, roof rails, keyless ignition and entry, automatic climate control, and a great-sounding six-speaker audio system. The Big Bend also comes with useful tech and infotainment features, including an 8-inch touch-screen interface, smartphone connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and remote control and monitoring through a dedicated smartphone app.
If you're looking to add some more features or spice up the Bronco Sport's looks, two optional packages are available for the Big Bend trim. One is called Convenience and includes such useful features as rear parking sensors, LED fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated front seats. The other is aptly named Black Appearance and includes black exterior badging, a black roof and grille, matte black hood graphics and wheels, and sport seats.
Heritage and Free Wheeling
These two trims are similar, as they give the 2024 Bronco Sport a retro look that's reminiscent of older Bronco generations. The Heritage trim pays tribute to the original Bronco, which was first launched in 1966. Its wheels, roof, and grille are all white, as well as the dashboard and door panels inside. The retro vibe is completed by the plaid cloth upholstery and suede armrest. Not all features are purely aesthetic, though, as the Heritage trim also includes a Class II trailer tow package that increases the Bronco Sport's towing capacity.
The Free Wheeling trim is inspired by Bronco models from the 1970s and 1980s. It includes 17-inch black and red wheels, multicolored seats, red accents on the door panels and dashboard, plus red, orange, and yellow exterior graphic elements.
Outer Banks
This trim is ideal for those who want to maximize the Bronco Sport's comfort and elegance and don't plan on taking it on challenging off-road adventures. Some of the features it adds are larger 18-inch wheels, rain-sensing windshield wipers, leather upholstery, heated front seats with a memory function for the driver's seat, interior ambient lighting, and a 6.5-inch digital instrument display.
It also has two optional packages. The first is a tech package that adds useful tech-related features, including a premium 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, high-definition radio, wireless charging pad, and universal garage door opener. The other option is the Black Diamond off-road package, which is also available for the standard Big Bend trim. As the name suggests, its role is to improve off-road performance, making it suitable for light- and medium-difficulty off-road trails. It adds underbody skid plates and 17-inch alloy wheels as well as some special graphics.
Badlands
While the previous trim was aimed at drivers who spend most of their time behind the wheels on paved roads, the Badlands trim targets off-road enthusiasts. It comes with plenty of off-road-oriented features, including special tires and suspensions, a special four-wheel drive system with a rear differential, a trail control function, and front tow hooks. It also adds special drive modes for muddy and rocky terrains.
Just because it's an off-road-oriented trim doesn't mean it can't be stylish and comfortable. The optional Premium package builds on the Badlands trim by adding features such as leather upholstery, a wireless charging pad, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
Excellent Performance Specs
Despite its off-roading DNA, the 2024 Ford Bronco Sport also drives like a dream on smooth surfaces. Its standard engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder that generates up to 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. If you feel you need more, the engine on the Badlands trim is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a maximum output of 250 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Both are helped by an eight-speed automatic transmission and come with standard all-wheel drive.
When equipped with the 2.0-liter engine, the 2024 Bronco can go from zero to 60 mph in just 7.2 seconds, an excellent time for an off-road-oriented vehicle. When properly equipped, the Bronco Sport can tow up to 2,200 pounds. This means that you can safely tow a light camper trailer or small boat on your road trips.
Impressive Active and Passive Safety
Safety is crucial for most drivers on the highway or in off-road situations. The 2023 Bronco sport received a maximum five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Given the fact that the 2024 model is structurally similar, it's expected to get the same rating.
However, modern vehicles are expected to feature multiple systems that help the driver notice any potential road incident in due time, helping them avoid any unfortunate collision. Even the base Bronco Sport trim comes with useful active safety systems, such as forward collision mitigation, lane-keeping assistance, and blind-spot warning, which help the driver avoid potentially dangerous situations. The optional Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist+ adds even more useful active safety features, including adaptive cruise control.
