Ford ushers in a new chapter with the imminent release of the 2024 Ford Mustang. The seventh generation of Ford's iconic pony car promises a revamped look, improved performance, and plenty of innovative technology. If you're excited about driving the Mustang around Springville, Alabama, keep reading as our team at All American Ford looks at everything new with the 2024 version.
Modern Exterior

You won't confuse the new Mustang with the classics. It's more confident, with revised headlights, taillights, and a hexagonal grille, giving this pony car a contemporary feel. Vapor Blue and Yellow Splash are new paint colors available exclusively with the 2024 model. The new optional Bronze Design Series appearance package, with stylish bronze badging and Sinister Bronze-painted aluminum wheels, lets you further customize the look.
New Engines
An upgraded turbocharged 2.3-liter, four-cylinder EcoBoost becomes the new standard for the 2024 Mustang. Thanks to its performance-enhancing modular power cylinder, it generates 315 horsepower, five more than its predecessor's base model motor.
A beefy new 5.0-liter Coyote V-8 is available with the GT or standard with the Dark Horse model. As Ford's most powerful naturally aspirated engine in this class, it produces 480 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque in the GT and 500 horsepower and 418 lb-ft in the Dark Horse. Opt for the performance exhaust, and those stats climb to an eye-watering 486 horsepower and 481 lb-ft in the GT. It makes the last Coyote V-8, with its 450 horsepower and 420 lb-ft, look like a puppy.
Stylish Themed Interiors
You're an individual, so why should your car look like everyone else's? You don't have to follow the pack when you drive a 2024 Mustang. Ford offers six unique interior environments, each with their own accent-color seatbelts and stitching, so you can select the one that fits you best. With options such as sophisticated Black Onyx, high-tech Space Gray, and bold Carmine Red, there's a style to suit everyone. Upholstery materials vary from practical cloth to more luxurious leather and microsuede trims.
The steering wheel has also had a makeover for 2024. The flat bottom, which encourages more exact hand positioning, is the most noticeable difference. Ford has also cleaned up the design with fewer buttons making it more user-friendly.
Cutting-Edge Entertainment Technology
A 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster and 13.2-inch infotainment screen anchor the 2024 Mustang's tech. You can customize the display with your preferred colors and gauges. A calm screen, which displays only key details, provides necessary information at a glance. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, and Amazon Alexa and Ford Streaming connectivity let you use voice commands to control your car more safely. You can also add a wireless smartphone charger to reduce cord clutter.
Ford has responded to the rising popularity of dash cameras with new overhead USB ports for this technology. While it's not essential technology, the new Remote Rev function on the key fob is a whole lot of fun. With the touch of a button, this clever feature lets you rev up the engine to impress your friends from outside the Mustang. Ford Power-Up software capability helps you keep your Mustang's technology up to date.
A Host of Driver Assist Features
The 2024 Mustang has more driver assistance features than any of its pony car rivals, so you can feel confident you and your passengers will safely make it to your destination. Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard at every trim level, helping you when you're on the roads. The safety suite includes blind-spot information with cross-traffic alert and rear traffic indicator, line-keeping assist, pre-collision assist, post-impact braking, rear parking sensors, and a digital rear-view camera. With auto high-beam headlamps and rain-sensing wipers anticipating your needs, you can focus on the road instead of the conditions.
You can also make the Mustang even safer with optional extras. Active pothole mitigation, which detects potholes and adjusts the suspension to minimize the risk of damage, is optional at most trim levels and included with a performance package.
Dark Horse Model
The new Dark Horse model is a performance machine. Available in standard and premium editions, the 5.0-liter V-8 comes standard with your choice of a 10-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. Ford said the motor features a revised intake system and connecting rods from the powerhouse 760-horsepower Mustang Shelby GT500. The 19-inch wheels with Pirelli P Zero PZ4 tires should get serious stopping power from the Brembo brake system. MagneRide shock absorbers and a Torsen rear differential round out the performance features. Needless to say, it'll be a ball to drive.
The Dark Horse looks a little different from the standard 2024 Mustang, with the trapezoidal LED projector headlamps — reserved for Ford's high-performance vehicles — a shark fin antenna, and a performance rear spoiler. The exclusive Blue Ember paint with tarnished dark accents gives this high-end Mustang a cool, moody look. Exclusive badges inside and out leave no doubt that you're driving a Dark Horse.
Optional Performance Pack
If the regular 2024 Ford Mustang trims don't quite have the grunt you're after, consider upgrading with a performance package. The 2.3-liter High-Performance Package lets you take the Mustang's lower trims to the next level. The GT Performance and Mustang Dark Horse Handling packages amp up the attitude of the higher trims.
The electronic drift brake is a new feature for these packages this year. While it's only for track use, this easy-to-use feature really raises the adrenaline in the right setting. You needn't hit the track regularly to see value here, as the package also has features you'll use every day, such as Brembo brakes, an improved suspension system, recalibrated electric power steering, and paddle shifters. Ford has also priced the package more competitively than in previous years.
