The 2018 Ford Edge is the premier name when people think of "family SUV" for a reason. It's sleek and quick, with plenty of cargo space and, since it's debut in 2007, the best safety features in its class and on the market. It's made to be purposely sleeker than the truck blended Expedition and a touch more well-balanced than it's larger counterpart the Explorer. While it's bigger and roomier on the inside than the Escape is, it doesn't pretend to be more than a large transport car perfect for the suburban family, but not made to deal with intense off-roading situations.
Minimalistic and Concise
If you've ever read a Graham Green novel, you'll be stunned by how concise each sentence is and yet how deep and inspiring it is. Because of its simplicity, it becomes something else, something much more profound. The sparse, compact elegance of the Ford Edge is very much the same. The Edge totally sets itself apart from the other Ford lineup SUVs and the entire class itself with an appeal that is timeless rather than modern. Even the baseline Edge has a 220 hp turbo engine that can comfortably pop all the way up to 245 hp when it's got the advantage of premium fuel. If you're still looking to tug some things around, you still have access to around 3500 pounds with the all-wheel drive and the 6-speed automatic. The steering is precisely weighted and totally controlled, but if you're interested in the agile and blood racing sports trim, there's a special steering to ensure you can tackle those tight corners with ease and the stiffer shocks that make it easier to navigate at higher speeds.
 The Interior
If you're purchasing an SUV for cargo space, the Edge won't disappoint. Although it hardly has any hidden cargo space, it uses the interior creatively to provide plenty of straightforward room for cargo and seating. Because of its sparse exterior, the cabin remains warm but utilitarian and still timeless. It's light and graceful which is completely unlike most SUVs. The tall dashboard softens the hard lines of the interior and softer, touchable materials on the seats and upholstery makes the entire cabin more appealing and comfortable. The interior easily balances touchscreen controls with knobs that you can touch. It's modern but not in a sense that makes it too techy, instead, it remains classical, simple, and operational. The physical buttons add a touch element to the control of the machine that is slowly leaking away from interior designs that are missed. Like when the power steering left the nimble little sports cars, the absence of real buttons leave you longing for a physicality to the vehicle.

The Power
The benefit of the Edge model is complete control. You can choose fuel economy or power and sometimes, even both. From twin-turbo engines to 4-cylinders it's totally up to yo what you want to use your car for. The handling on any of the power-ups or downs is meant to ease the comfortable, low to the ground suburban into a higher wagon like driving experience. It's super controlled handling provides for a tight ride that makes you feel like a race car driver behind the wheel. The lack of turbo lag is a noticeable addition that was missed, though we didn't realize it. You'll notice downshifts are swift and agile like the vehicle itself and the console-mounted shift lever allows for easy fluctuation. The rest of the power rests in the in the brakes that offer a prompt response at a slight touch.

The Gadgets
All Edge trims come with rear-facing cameras, power features, air-conditioning, cruise control and a Bluetooth audio streaming option, you can even check out the rear-seat inflatable seat belts which are still coveted safety features. If you invest in the SEL model, you'll have power front seats to look forward to as well as satellite radio, dual zone climate controls and even heated rear-view mirrors. Premium audio and blind-spot monitoring certainly take it to the next level.
The Titanium and Sport
The higher-end models are always more interesting and have more real estate for gadgets that are impressive and become a necessity more than a convenience after you sample them. With the SYNC infotainment system, you can easily schedule maintenance, find a parking spot, turn your car on at scheduled intervals and more. Of course, the 12 speaker system from Sony combined with the heated seating and hand free tailgate rounds up the complementary additions. The boxes you can check to turn your vehicle into even more of a luxury include ventilated front seats, active park assist and 180 front cameras alongside a bundle of award-winning safety gear to protect what really matters: the people in the car. The Sport comes standard with the turbo V6 and adaptive steering that turn it into a true precision vehicle.
