Among Americans everywhere, there has always been a dreaded word when going car shopping: commuter car. It's tiny, it's probably silver and it's not fun to drive or sit in. The seats are amazingly uncomfortable and the stereo is pretty tinny for how much time you'll be spending in the front seat waiting for the standstill commuter traffic on the highway to get a move on. But then, eight years ago, that all changed when the Fiesta arrived on the scene. Despite being a what some might label "a commuter car," it's still pretty exciting. It's gifted with a fair amount of horsepower, a delicious fiesta-themed color palette, hidden buttons around the cabin that do different things, and so much more that renders it a practical piece, but also an excellent vehicle overall. If you're considering a new car, you can't beat the Fiesta on quite a few different fronts.

The Pure Style

You'll have noticed a marked increase in angular, sharp bodies on cars and in this regard, the Fiesta was always ahead of the game. The slim, cut look of the Fiesta's body keeps it from looking boxy and too practical, unlike most cars in its class. In fact, we might even go so far as to boast that it's one of the most intriguing-looking cars of its class. It can be classified by the gentle curve of its roof, the handsome profile it strikes, and the headlights that sweep back and give the car the appearance of the determined look that you see in most sports cars nowadays. Pair that with a vivacious color selection and you've managed to surpass the other competitors in the class. The interior provides a variety of low, swooping shapes and gentle curves that bring to mind the graceful and large interior of bigger cars. In our opinion, the best part is the litany of buttons that flank the touchscreen in the center dash. Ford's designers had a clear directive when they designed the interior of the Fiesta: they wanted it to look clean cut and well-managed to show off its utilitarian abilities, but they also wanted it to look exciting. The console full of pressable buttons adds an aesthetic feel that comes across as an ultra-modern crew pit of a spaceship. In fact, when you glance at the makeup of the car itself, you can freely guess that the design is in place to actively negate the idea that a commuter car has to be boring.

The Performance

In short, it's more than anyone could hope for. If we were to attempt to expand upon that idea, we'd probably start with the fact that the 2600 lb. car is equipped with 120 hp standard. On a larger car that's not much, but on a car this size, it's more than enough. If you're feeling sportier, you can always choose the ST trim, which is equipped with wedge rises on the rear, chrome wheels, and chunky tires for ultimate control around those tight corners that the Fiesta was clearly designed to take like a pro. In fact, when you purchase your brand new Fiesta from our Oneonta Ford Dealership, you'll have three choices in the engine. Most standard models come with the 1.6 liter that has a mild 120 horsepower. Though it's not too mild at all on this nimble little vehicle, you'll find that it can easily power up from 0 to 60 mph in around 10 seconds. While the 5-speed manual is more fun to drive because you'll honestly feel more like you're in a race car when yanking on the shifter while keeping the vehicle in line, the 6-speed automatic offers better gas mileage and has a great shift-smoothing torque converter. Though, our favorite is still the ST with a 197 horsepower engine that really makes the road your playground. You'll find that the spunky little engine under the hood can pull out around 202 lb.-ft. of torque. Combine that with the dreamy suspension and steering control, and you've got yourself a car that is the perfect portal to making your day-to-day driving experience better while still remaining practical.
